[Men's Wrestling] Mechanics Bow Out at National Championships

Unfortunately for all six of Williamson's wrestlers at the 2019 National Collegiate Wrestling Association national championships, their tournament came to an end on Friday morning, as five of them lost in the second round of the Consolation bracket and were eliminated.

After opening round pins on Thursday afternoon, junior 141 pounders Zakaria Elfernani (JR/Newtown Square, PA) and Jeremy Gannon (JR/Aston, PA) both lost their matches last night and this morning.  Freshmen Avery Frank (FR/Aston, PA) and Michael O'Brien (FR/Feasterville, PA), along with junior Nick Venuti (JR/Clifton Heights, PA) all lost opening round matches on Thursday afternoon but came up big with a win last night.  Unfortunately, all three lost their second-round consolation matches this morning.  Junior Quincy Williams (JR/Conshohocken, PA), after being pinned in his opening match, was eliminated from the tournament on a technicality last night.

Despite having just six wrestlers at the tournament, with many colleges had double that amount, Williamson currently stands in 58th place out of 79 in the tema standings.   The six wrestlers who qualified for nationals is the most that Williamson has had since 2008.  The Mechanics finished their dual meet season at 8-4.
