1 School threat: Police in Charlottesville, Va., said Friday that they’ve charged a 17-year-old who made online racist threats that forced the city’s schools to close. The teen, who was not identified, faces a felony charge of threatening to commit seriously bodily harm on school property. The system’s nine schools were closed Thursday and Friday. Police Chief RaShall Brackney said the student used “vile and racially charged language.” Charlottesville was the site of a white nationalist rally in 2017 when a counterprotester was fatally struck by a car.

2 Counterfeiting case: A son of missionaries who later married into the family of an African dictator has admitted to his role in an international counterfeiting operation. Ryan Gustafson, 28, an American married to the granddaughter of the late Ugandan dictator Idi Amin, pleaded guilty to conspiracy and counterfeiting counts Thursday in Pittsburgh. Prosecutors say Gustafson’s operation was uncovered after one of his confederates bought coffee in Pittsburgh with a fake $100 bill. Gustafson’s plea deal calls for a sentence of about six years.

3 Teachers hurt: Indiana’s largest teachers union says teachers at an elementary school were shot with plastic pellets during active-shooter training. Members of the Indiana State Teachers Association told the state Senate’s education committee this week that the teachers were left with welts, bruises and abrasions after being struck in January by plastic pellets as a sheriff’s office conducted the training. The union is asking lawmakers to amend a school safety bill to add language that would prohibit teachers from being shot with any sort of material as part of training.
