Wyche finally gets "surreal" chance at Siena
Wyche made his first public appearance at Wednesday's postseason banquet as a member of Maciariello's first staff, along with assistants Bob Simon and Harley Fuller of Broadalbin-Perth and special assistant Matt Miner of Shenendehowa. Their hirings were announced on Tuesday.
It continues a long relationship Wyche had with both Maciariello and Siena, where Wyche used to play pickup as a burgeoning star at Bishop Gibbons before playing at Notre Dame.
Wyche remembered being in the stands watching Siena play Georgia Tech in the 1994 National Invitation Tournament at what used to be called Knickerbocker Arena, now Times Union Center.
"It's almost surreal, you know what I'm saying?" Wyche said at the Hilton Albany. "To actually have a chance to be here and coaching, let alone coaching with Carmen, is somewhat surreal. I'm just kind of taking it all in."
