[Men's Lacrosse] Big Fourth Quarter Leads to Comeback Victory for Lacrosse

Taking on nationally ranked The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) on Sunday afternoon, Williamson knew it would have its hands full if they were to pull off the upset.  Indeed, Sunday afternoon's game proved to be as close advertised.  In the end however, Williamson was able to come storming back from a two-goal deficit late in the game and then hang on thanks to several key saves to take down the Lions by a final score of 10-8.

TCNJ proved they came to play as they took a 1-0 lead just 15 seconds into the game.  The teams would continue trading goals up to halftime, where the score was tied at 4-4.  With the teams tied at 6-6 heading into the final stanza, TCNJ would then try to pull away, as they scored two straight goals to go up 8-6 with thirteen minutes left in the game.  It was then that Williamson took charge on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. 

In order to pull off a come-from-behind fourth quarter victory, the Mechanics would need help on both offense and defense.  They got just that from both.  Williamson's offense struck for one goal right away to pull to within 8-7.  Jim Carey then scored off a feed from Nate Lohr (FR/Springfield, PA) to tied things up at 8-8 with seven minutes left.  The Mechanics would then get their first lead of the game with five minutes left off a goal by Jacob Long (JR/Broomall, PA).  That goal would prove to be the eventual game winner, but the Lions did not go down without a fight.  Williamson would add another goal with three minutes left to go up 10-8, but it took three outstanding saves by Williamson goalie Domenic Volpe (JR/Lansdale, PA) to make sure the lead stayed to the end.

The win moves Williamson to 6-3 on the year and leaves them right in the thick of the NCLL Liberty Division play-off race.  They next host Drexel University on Tuesday night in a 7:00 P.M. start.
