SPAC announces global music debuts
The Saratoga Performing Arts Center recently expanded its commitment to global music offerings with SPAC on Stage and Yamato: The Drummers of Japan.
The differing immersive concert formats will allow audiences to experience international artists and global music.
SPAC on Stage returns to Saratoga Springs with four debuts, including Indian sitar player and composer Anoushka Shankar on June 19, the heir to the transcendent musical tradition of her father, Ravi Shankar; Latin Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist Tony Succar, with his band Mixtura on July 23; Bhangra party band Red Baraat on Aug. 26; and the multi-cultural Banda Magda on Sept. 9.
The series features a unique seating arrangement that transforms the amphitheater into an intimate concert experience, where the entire audience is placed on stage with the artists, looking out into the theater.
Also on the amphitheater stage, Yamato: The Drummers of Japan will fuse Taiko drumming with spectacle and athleticism for its Capital Region debut of the heart-thumping program Jhonestsu on July 29.
"Our community has embraced the innovative format of SPAC on Stage and the genre-crossing artists that it features with enthusiasm," said Elizabeth Sobol, president & CEO of SPAC. "This year's summer lineup turns SPAC into a world stage, showcasing artists from every corner of the globe."
