Police: Man killed in gunfire exchange, another in hospital
BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Police in Burlington, Vermont, say a man was shot in the head and killed during an exchange of gunfire.
Police identified the man as 23-year-old Benzell Hampton. He was shot Tuesday afternoon in a driveway on North Willard Street. Chief Brandon del Pozo said in a news release that the motive appears to be narcotics-related.
He said a man alleged to have attacked Hampton has been admitted to the University of Vermont Medical Center for treatment for gunshot wounds. It's believed that Hampton shot him multiple times. He is expected to survive.
Hampton has arrest records in Vermont, Florida, and Georgia.
