Why are conservatives so obsessed with cargo shorts?
Yesterday afternoon, former far-right darling and newfound lifestyle and mindset guru Mike Cernovich posted a thread of fashion advice for men, which included some extremely standard tips: wear slim fit clothing, buy nice shoes, and incorporate color into your outfits.
It’s extremely useful advice for men purchasing their first set of threads since 2015 when a new era of modern men’s fashion crossed over into the mainstream. No one sees people in boxy suits at weddings anymore.
But included in his thread was a knock on cargo shorts.

What cargo shorts have to do with a navy blue suit with white piping is unclear, but it’s a revitalization of an argument that’s been brewing in conservative and far-right circles over the past few weeks.
Whereas once the target of their ire was corrupt government officials within the FBI or caravan of immigrants approaching our southern border, it’s now cargo shorts.

Over the past month, they’ve been obsessed with a fashion choice that was essentially resolved when companies stopped featuring baggy cargo shorts years ago because they went out of style.

However, it’s not nearly as unified as you might think. Just like not all conservatives truly support President Donald Trump, some just like their cargo shorts. Especially, the editors of the Daily Wire.
The hatred of cargo shorts is unfair, especially coming from women. My wife always wants me to carry her ID and phone when we go out because she doesnt feel like bringing a purse. But if I wear shorts with extra pockets to accommodate, suddenly Im the nerd? That's fake news folks

The bottom line is that cargo shorts once were very cool, and now they are out of fashion.
People are still wearing them, because large swaths of society always lag behind the vanguard in culture, like say, some pundits on the far-right, which is apparently why this discussion is happening now and not in 2015.
