1 Seven killed: Police raised the death toll at two homes near Westmoreland, Tenn., to seven Sunday and said they are investigating whether a suspect captured after a manhunt knew the victims. Michael Cummins, 25, was taken into custody Saturday night after being shot about a mile from one of the crime scenes, said Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokesman Josh DeVine. Authorities have not released any details about the victims. They also have not said what kind of weapon was used. DeVine said at least one officer fired at Cummins during the manhunt. After his capture, he was hospitalized with injuries that are not life-threatening, DeVine said. None of the responding officers was hurt.
2 Inmate killed: One convicted killer is accused of beheading another in what authorities call a sadistic torture slaying at Corcoran State Prison in Kings County. Inmate Jaime Osuna, 31, removed several body parts from his cellmate, Luis Romero, 44, Assistant District Attorney Phil Esbenshade said Friday. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is conducting an internal investigation, spokeswoman Terry Thornton said. Osuna pleaded not guilty to murder and other charges, which include several special circumstances that could bring the death penalty. Guards found Romero dead in his cell March 9.
3 Abortion restriction: Oklahoma Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt has signed a bill allowing felony charges against doctors who perform abortions without informing women about the possibility of reversing the process. The law requires medical providers to tell women who are taking medication to end their pregnancies that the process can be reversed after they take the first of two pills.
