Fan’s ‘thank you’ tweet becomes an ‘Avengers: Endgame’ meme
It started out as a sincere gesture. A fan wanted to thank the original cast of the Avengers for making the movies she loved. On April 25, the day before Avengers: Endgame was released in the United States, a woman going by “megan saw endgame x2” tweeted out a thank you to each of the actors, and then the characters they played, ending the tweet with “thank you for being our heros [sic]”.

It’s nerdy and sweet, and people loved the pure unironic joy behind it. The post has now been retweeted 112,000 times and liked 328,000.
But it wouldn’t be the internet if people didn’t also have a little fun with it. The format has now become a snowclone meme, with people tweeting out other groups of heroes that they feel deserve recognition.

It’s understandable to want to thank the people who made whatever bit of entertainment you love. They have, after all, brought a lot of joy into your life, but never forget they’re also just human beings doing a job. Avengers: Endgame has already brought in over 3 billion dollars globally in less than a week. Those paychecks are probably thanks enough.
