The Nation's Weather for Sunday, May 12, 2019
_____
NATIONAL SUMMARY
After a dry and nice start to the weekend, rain will make
for a much chillier and dreary Mother's Day across most of
the Northeast today. Only northern New England will stay
dry. South of the rain, the stage will be set for locally
severe thunderstorms from southern Virginia to the
east-central Gulf Coast. Damaging winds and downpours will
be the greatest hazards from the severe thunderstorms. Rain
will also stretch to the Ohio Valley, while a few showers
dot the central Plains and lower Great Lakes. The South
Central states, however, will welcome much-needed drier
weather. On the other side of the country, thunderstorms
will dot the desert Southwest, mainly in the afternoon. The
Northwest will stay dry while heat relief finally comes to
the Pacific Northwest.
