Flash flood warning remains in effect across New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A flash flood warning remains in effect across New Orleans and surrounding parishes on the South Shore.
The National Weather Service's Slidell office says the warning will continue through 8:30 a.m. Sunday as strong storms with heavy rain and frequent lightning move through the area.
New Orleans suspended restrictions on parking on neutral grounds shortly before 6 a.m. and encouraged residents to park their cars on high ground.
The storms also caused power outages. As of about 5:45 a.m., 4,473 Entergy customers were without power in Orleans Parish, along with 4,748 in Jefferson Parish, according to the company's outage map. Cleco reported about 278 customers without power on the North Shore.
