In fact, Brown mentioned in an interview last week that he recruited Maciariello more than two decades ago. Brown was an assistant coach under Brian Beaury at the College of Saint Rose and Maciariello was a high school standout at Shenendehowa.

"It makes me feel old,'' Brown, 47, said with a laugh.

"He's a good guy,'' Maciariello, 40, said today. "I like Will."

"I know his dad, and Will's from Long Island," Maciariello added. "We have some mutual people that are friends. Obviously, his relationship with Coach Beaury and Will's wife, so many different connections, it's always cool when the basketball gods work out that way and there's so many connections based on the game."
