[Baseball] Trio of Baseball Players Named to USCAA All-Academic Team

Three Williamson baseball players were named to the 2019 United States Collegiate Athletic Association Baseball All-Academic team, as announced recently by the association.  Seniors Greg Practico and Josh Speakman, along with junior Bryan Archambo (JR/Newtown Square), were all named to the squad, which honors student-athletes for outstanding play on the field, as well as outstanding work in the classroom.

Tied for second on the team in RBI, as well as fourth on the tema in stolen bases, Pratico had an even better season in the field as the team's starting centerfielder.  He led the team's outfielders in putouts and also tied for the lead in assists.

Speakman's leadership as the team's captain and starting catcher was invaluable throughout the season.    Head Coach Doug Thompson likened having Speakman behind the plate to having a coach out on the field.

Archambo was a pleasant surprise for the Mechanics on the mound in 2019.  He was second on the team in ERA, as well as second on the team in strikeouts.  His average of 9.31 strikeouts per nine innings pitched was one of the highest averages in the USCAA.

In order to qualify for consideration for the award, a player must have made significant contributions on the field of play and must have a 3.50 cumulative Grade Point Average or higher.
