On December 4, he announced his selection of Dana Gioia to succeed Juan Felipe Herrera as the statersquo;s poet laureate. Gioia, who served as chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts under President George W. Bush and currently teaches poetry and culture at the University of Southern California, says that one of his top goals as laureate is ldquo;to reach rural communities.

Housing Services: Mayor Announces Emergency Winter Shelter Services

Today, Mayor Edwin M. Lee, the San Francisco Human Services Agency (HSA) and the San Francisco Interfaith Council announced the schedule for the Emergency Winter Shelter Program and shelter site locations. The City is also currently planning for a significant shelter bed expansion in advance of the anticipated El Nino storms in order to ensure everyone in need of shelter receives it during the expected cold, wet winter storms.
