Re: Report: Nottingham Forest Under-18s 0 Blues Under-18s 1

Small Heath Alliance

Let's hope Bellingham spends a good few years here.

Someone recently suggested our Academy was not that good. This result is further proof that they were wrong.

Jude will (God willing) play in the Championship next season, but (sadly) don’t expect to see him after that. He’s a good lad, and loyal Blue, but top European clubs are after him, let alone top English clubs.

We need to get promoted next season, and then we’d have a slim chance of retaining him. Читать дальше...

Is Turkey Capable of Defeating ISIS in Syria?

The National Interest

Doug Bandow

Turkey Syria ISIS, Middle East

The first responders in the case of a threat like ISIS should be those nations most affected.

The Islamic State exploded in the Middle East, gaining control of large sections of Iraq and Syria. No nation was safe from its ambition to create an Islamic caliphate. But Turkey initially accommodated Daesh, even profiting from illicit oil sales. Eventually, the insurgents turned terrorist inside Turkey, forcing the Erdogan government to respond. Читать дальше...

House Democrats Should Cut Trump Some Slack on North Korea Policy

The National Interest

Daniel R. DePetris, Richard Sokolsky

Security, Asia

Now is not the time to weaponize for narrow partisan advantage a negotiation that could achieve historical results.

The Democrats have now assumed majority control of the House of Representatives for the first time in eight years. And with more power comes more responsibility. There is no issue on Washington’s national security agenda that will require as much responsible behavior, prudence and patience as the fragile U.S.-North... Читать дальше...

The Bosnia Boondoggle: This Is Why Sarajevo Can't Join NATO

The National Interest

Sean Maguire, Ryan Scherba

Security, Europe

So long as Milorad Dodik is in power, the idea of Bosnia joining NATO is dead in the water.

If the United States is serious about backing NATO membership for Bosnia and Herzegovina, then it has to get serious about the failures of the Dayton Peace Accords and drop its support for them as Bosnia’s governance system. They may have ended Bosnia’s civil war in 1995, but they have become synonymous with stagnation, frustration, despair, poor governance and weak institutions. Читать дальше...

American Credibility in the Age of Trump

The National Interest

Gregory A. Daddis

Security, Americas

Credibility on the world stage is an integral party of American grand strategy—if not U.S. foreign policy writ large.

What best defines the “credibility” of the United States as a global power? In terms of American foreign policy and national security, who determines whether our nation is a “credible” ally or adversary?

The recent resignation letter from Secretary of Defense James Mattis suggests that these questions still matter to sober-minded policymakers. Читать дальше...

Japan Accelerates Its Defense Buildup

The National Interest

Milton Ezrati

Security, Asia

Tokyo will begin to alter the security equation in the Western Pacific in the not-too-distant future.

Long pacifist, Japan has decided to accelerate its military spending and effectively begin to gear up. It should hardly come as a surprise. Though Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has long sought to shift Japan from pacifism to what he calls a “normal country,” North Korea’s missiles and China’s aggressiveness in the Pacific would have left Tokyo little choice anyway.
