The Centre Friday announced the Great Indian Bustard (GIB) as the mascot for the 13th UN Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species (CMS)(COP 13), scheduled to be held in Gujarat next year. OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say two people were found dead after a house fire north of Olympia. KOMO-TV reports firefighters responded to the home early Thursday after a man called 911 and said he heard explosions and saw his parents' house on fire. South Bay Fire & rescue said the two-story home was fully ablaze when firefighters arrived. Firefighters weren't able to enter the home until Thursday afternoon when they found the two bodies. The cause of the blaze is under investigation, but police say no criminal activity is suspected.

State-owned hydro power giant NHPC reported 73.51 per cent decline in its standalone net profit to Rs 182.18 crore in the quarter ended December 31, on lower revenues. The standalone net profit stood at Rs 687.93 crore in the same quarter previous fiscal, the comapny said in a statement. The company's total revenues came down to Rs 1,691.22 crore in third quarter from Rs 2,066.11 crore a year ago, the statement said. More than 270 patients were found affected by the flu in Punjab this year, said Dr Gagandeep Singh Grover, the state nodal officer for swine flu.
