Prez gives assent to 7 state Bills

President Ram Nath Kovind has given assent to seven state Bills, including one belonging to Bihar which will ensure that the menace of dowry is dealt under the relevant central law, officials said Tuesday. Of the seven Bills which got the President's approval, two are of Andhra Pradesh and one each was of Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Bihar. Fire rips through explosives-littered German forest

German fire-fighters were Tuesday battling a huge forest blaze ripping through a former military training area littered with unexploded munitions dating back to the Nazi era. Madras HC judge does self-appraisal, asks Bar for ideas to improve

In a candid declaration, a Madras High Court judge has sent to the Bar a self-appraisal of his two-year tenure, reflecting on disposal of cases, his judgments, behaviour, and vowing to evolve a mechanism to overcome his shortcomings. Justice G R Swaminathan, who assumed office on June 28, 2017, said in his report card that he has disposed of 18,944 cases individually and 2,534 cases as part of division benches.
