Top neuroscientists say Biogen's experimental drug for Alzheimer's disease appears to have promise as clinical treatment that slows the disease's attack on the brain -- despite the drug's complicated backstory and conflicting data from two clinical trials. If approved by the FDA, it could become the first drug to attack the dementia-causing disease itself and not just its symptoms.

In a reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Statistics, Programme Implementation and Planning Rao Inderjit Singh said that over the past 70 years, the base year has been changed seven times. It was changed in 1967, 1978, 1988, 1999, 2006, 2010 and last time in 2015, when the base year was changed to 2011-12, he said.

Shares of Sage Therapeutics Inc. were indicated down nearly 9% in premarket trading Thursday, after the biopharmaceutical company said a Phase 3 study of its SAGE-217 for the treatment of major depressive disorder failed to meet the primary endpoint. The study did not result in a statistically significant reduction compared with placebo, but SAGE-217 was well tolerated and showed a similar safety profile as seen in earlier studies.
