The Latest On A Few Cubs Players Who’ve Gotten Hurt
Sunday’s loss to the Reds was rough to watch, but it only got worse when Kris Bryant and Jason Heyward crashed into each other in the outfield. Bryant got the worst of it, taking a shot right to the head and neck, but the Cubs haven’t placed him on the concussion protocol. However, Bryant wasn’t in the lineup Monday against the Astros and won’t be playing on Tuesday night either.
As far as Heyward goes, Joe Maddon was on 670 The Score Tuesday afternoon and said he expects him to be in the starting lineup. Bryant is still sore and for now is still out.
Here’s the play from Sunday.
Hey, at least it’s not a concussion?
The Cubs don’t play on Thursday, so maybe Bryant just gets the entire Houston series off before they play against the Cardinals starting Friday. Not the most ideal situation for the Cubs, who had to call up 34-year-old Jim Adduci to be on the bench. He actually started in right field Monday, with Heyward not playing.
During Monday’s game in Houston, lefty Mike Montgomery came in to pitch the fifth inning, but during his warmup he felt something in his finger and was replaced before ever pitching to the Astros.
However, after the game Montgomery was feeling better.
Maddon backed that up during his radio segment with Laurence Holmes and said Montgomery could pitch as soon as tonight.
So, Heyward should be back in the lineup. Still no Bryant and Montgomery could be available out of the bullpen tonight against the Astros.
