On Wednesday, Jontay Porter achieved fame in perhaps the most ignominious way he could: He became the first athlete in the North American major leagues to receive a lifetime ban for gambling since Major League Baseball excommunicated Pete Rose, a player-manager for the Cincinnati Reds, in 1989.
