Union minister comment on North Bengal-NE merger triggers row

Union minister and Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar proposed to the Prime Minister to integrate North Bengal with north-eastern India for better development. The proposal attracted criticism from West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress and within the BJP, though some party members supported it. BJP spokesperson Shamik Bhattacharya stated that the development is possible without altering Bengal's geographical borders.
