U.S. Missile Defense Is Under Strain
Following the announcement on October 13 that the U.S. military will deploy a battery of Theater High Altitude Air Defense (THAAD) missiles to Israel, strains and limitations are beginning to show in both countries’ missile defense systems. Although there was no explicit quid pro quo, the deployment may have been linked to pressure on Israel to forego targeting Iranian nuclear and oil industry sites in an effort to limit escalation.
