Belize issues warnings as Tropical Storm Sara scrapes along Honduran coast, bringing heavy rain

The Central American country of Belize issued tropical storm warnings for its coast Friday as Tropical Storm Sara moved through the Caribbean. Sara doused Honduras’ northern coast with heavy rain. Sustained rain fell in the Honduran city of San Pedro Sula. But there were no signs of serious flooding yet. Regional Workshop on TRIPS and contemporary policy issues concludes in Vienna

Twenty-two senior officials working in health, intellectual property and trade from Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Caucasus (CEECAC) members and observers participated in a Regional Workshop on the Agreement on Trade-related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) and contemporary policy issues held in Vienna from 12 to 15 November. Participants had the opportunity to share their national experiences and exchange information on intellectual property, innovation and public policy issues.

WTO members explore ways of revitalizing trade and development work

At a meeting of the Committee on Trade and Development on 15 November, the chair Ambassador Ram Prasad Subedi of Nepal said that organizing a thematic session on challenges faced by developing economies was among members’ recent proposals on how to reinvigorate the WTO’s trade and development work. Other topics, ranging from crop diversification and resiliency to capacity-building and duty-free quota-free market access for least-developed countries (LDCs), were also examined at the meeting.

A total of 27 government officials from WTO members and observers participated from 12 to 15 November in a WTO advanced course on services aspects of e-commerce in Geneva. This course aimed to provide participants with an in-depth understanding of the interplay between services trade and e-commerce, and of the WTO’s work on this topic.

Members progress on Sixth Review of SPS Agreement, address record number of trade concerns

World Trade Organization 

WTO members advanced their work on the Sixth Review of the Operation and Implementation of the WTO Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS Agreement) at a meeting of the SPS Committee on 13-15 November. Members were also updated on work to enhance the implementation of special and differential treatment (S&DT) provisions in the SPS Agreement and the Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT). A record number of trade concerns was addressed during the meeting.
