Bill passes to independently investigate harassment claims
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — The New Hampshire Legislature is closer to having independent investigations of sexual harassment complaints against lawmakers.
Currently, complaints are reported to the House or Senate chiefs of staff. Under a bill passed by the House on Wednesday, complaints would go to an independent human resources employee, instead.
Supporters said sexual harassment is a real and continuing problem in workplaces, including the Statehouse. Opponents said administrative policy shouldn't be enshrined in state law.
The House made some changes to a bill that previously passed the Senate, so differences between the two versions still must be worked out.(backslash)
