STANWOOD, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say two people have been arrested after offensive and threatening messages were spray-painted on a middle school in Washington state earlier this week.

The Daily Herald reports staff at Stanwood Middle School on Monday found the graffiti that Stanwood police say included swastikas, homophobic slurs and other "shocking symbols and slogans."

Police say the warning, "Don't come to school Tuesday," was painted near a tombstone and skull and crossbones.

Authorities arrested a 19-year-old and a 17-year-old on suspicion of malicious harassment and malicious mischief.

According to court documents, the 19-year-old man told police that he didn't intend to threaten anyone.

The man was booked in the Snohomish County Jail. The teen was taken to a juvenile facility in Everett.

The newspaper did not identify the suspects.
