Regulators want utility to clarify rate increases
MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — Vermont regulators want the state's largest utility to tell its customers what the full impact of its proposed rate increases would be this fall.
Green Mountain Power has proposed increasing rates by nearly 3% in October. Vermont Public Radio reports that customers could end up paying around 10 % more because of an earlier deferred rate increase and surcharges.
In a letter to GMP this week, the state Public Utility Commission said it was "concerned" that customers may not be getting all the details about the increases. It told GMP that it needs to clarify in its customer notice that the increase is in addition to other rate hikes planned for this fall.
A GMP spokeswoman says she expects the company will rewrite the draft notice to reflect the impacts.
