1 Campaign 2020: Joe Sestak, a former Navy admiral and congressman from Pennsylvania, is joining the crowded field of Democratic candidates running for president. With an announcement on his website Saturday, Sestak became the 24th Democratic candidate in the race. Sestak, 67, was elected to Congress in 2006. He served in the military from 1974 to 2005, finishing his career as a three-star Navy admiral. He commanded an aircraft carrier battle group that conducted combat operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. He also served as President Bill Clinton’s director for defense policy on the National Security Council. Referring to President Trump, Sestak said: “The president is not the problem. He is the symptom of the problem people see in a system that is not fair and accountable to the people.”

2 Casino opens: Massachusetts’ third casino premiered Sunday to cheers and fanfare. Thousands waited for the doors of the $2.6 billion Encore Boston Harbor to open. The complex sits on 33 acres of former industrial land along the Mystic River in the town of Everett. The facility has a 671-room hotel tower, a gambling floor with 3,100 slot machines and 231 table games, 15 bars and restaurants, shops and a harbor walk. It employs more than 5,000 workers.

3 Tahoe litter: The oldest and largest conservation group at Lake Tahoe and a coalition of water suppliers plan to distribute 250 cigarette butt collection canisters around the lake this summer to help protect the cobalt blue waters and reduce litter on the shoreline. Leaders of the League to Save Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Water Supplies Association say the thousands of butts collected in recent beach cleanup events served as a call to action.
