ValleyCats' manager ejected in loss to Vermont
Guillen, ejected in the top of the eighth, wasn't in the dugout when Vermont tied the game in the ninth following another strange sequence. With Tri-City leading 6-5, ValleyCats reliever Garrett Gayle ran in from the bullpen for his first professional appearance.
But Tri-City pitcher Julio Rabaina, a Cuban who had pitched the eighth inning, came back out to the mound thinking his night wasn't done. It appeared to be a miscommunication because of language.
Rabaina was required to face Vermont lead-off man Yerdel Vargas, who promptly doubled to left.
At that point, Gayle was allowed to come into the game and Vermont tied the game off him when Jordan Diaz's sacrifice fly scored Vargas to make it 6-6.
