Brown County State Park partially reopens amid water trouble

0

NASHVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Southern Indiana's popular Brown County State Park has partially reopened to the public although its overnight facilities will remain closed at least through Tuesday as staffers continue working to restore its drinking water supply.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says some hiking trails reopened Monday and activities such as fishing and picnicking were being allowed in the park near Nashville but visitors needed to bring their own drinking water. The park's Abe Martin Lodge, campgrounds and cabins remained closed, along with modern restroom facilities, drinking fountains and pools.

Indiana's largest state park had been closed since June 17 as officials said heavy rainfall caused too much sediment to enter its water source, Ogle Lake, and making its water unsafe for drinking.
