Mississippi county will vote on a liquor sale referendum

0

BAY SPRINGS, Miss. (AP) — Residents in the second judicial district of a Mississippi county will get to vote on a liquor sales referendum during the primary election.

WDAM-TV reports the Jasper County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to put the referendum on the August 6th ballot.

Jasper County Circuit Clerk Billy Rayner says only people living in the second judicial district will be allowed to vote on the referendum. Liquor sales in the first district are already legal.

Jordan Holder petitioned for the referendum and received over 1,400 signatures. He lives in Bay Springs, one of the towns in the second district.

He says liquor sales will give restaurants in the area a profit boost.
