More school districts join no snow days pilot project

0

ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) — More school districts are joining a South Carolina experiment to have kids learn at home on days when roads are too icy for school buses.

The Independent Mail reports that there weren't enough snow days last year for the South Carolina Education Oversight Committee to decide whether the "eLearning" days work.

Five districts participated. Ten will be in this year's pilot program.

Committee spokeswoman Dana Yow says most districts had one or two eLearning days but felt another year would help to figure out what works and what doesn't.

Districts had to show they had devices for kids to use at home during bad weather and that teachers would be able to teach remotely.

Until third grade, kids get printed homework packets rather than taking home their school Chromebooks.
