The creative Catalans Dragons will sign current Penrith and New South Wales State of Origin five eighth James Maloney on a three year deal starting in 2020. Catalans reportedly beat out a bid from the Leeds Rhinos. Assuming that Samuel Tomkins, Michael McIlorum, and possibly Antoine Gigot are also retained, the Catalans will have the best spine in Super League.
It is hard to see how the Catalans will miss out on the Grand Final in 2020 with "Jimmy Wins", a two time NRL Grand Final winner (with the Sydney Roosters and Cronulla Sharks), steering the team around.
James Maloney was apparently influenced in his decision by a desire to enjoy the wonderful lifestyle available in the south of France. He noted that this was better than what the north of England could offer.
