Mary Jo Kelly qualifies for U.S. Senior Amateur Championship
Mary Jo Kelly of Loudonville earned a spot in the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship with a top-10 finish in the Massachusetts qualifier at Kittansett Club in Marion, Mass.
“I decided to go to Massachusetts to try to qualify to take the opportunity to play a Top 100 golf course,” Kelly said of the Monday qualifier. “It’s an old, old course and I wanted to go see it, that’s why I was there. It was an absolute treat to be there. It was absolutely magnificent.”
She shot an 83 on the difficult par-72 links course on the mainland side of Buzzards Bay in Marion. She finished her round with a double bogey and a bogey, but she knew scores would be high. Kelly discovered she qualified for a playoff of six players for the final four spots.
“I played OK, not great,” Kelly said. “I secured my spot on the second playoff hole.”
