Cole Hamels Is Back vs. Brewers, So Who’s Leaving?
Cole Hamels is ready to return to the Cubs starting rotation after being sidelined with an oblique strain since late June. The left-hander will make the start Saturday against the Brewers at Wrigley Field.
Hamels had a 2.98 ERA in 17 starts before getting injured against the Reds on June 28. He made two rehab starts with the Iowa Cubs on July 23 and 28, pitching a total of 5.1 innings.
So, the Cubs will have to remove someone from the bullpen, but there really isn’t a clear answer on who will be the guy leaving.
Let’s assume the Cubs don’t want to option Rowan Wick because he’s actually looked very good in his recent outings. He has minor league options, but the Cubs don’t have the luxury to get rid of anyone being effective out of the bullpen.
Maybe it’s time for another made up injury? It’s not like that doesn’t happen.
Can’t wait for a “sore shoulder” injury stint for Brad Brach.
