49ers’ practice report: Garoppolo has INT-INT-INT-INT-INT stretch
The report from the 49ers’ 13th practice of training camp:
WEATHER: 80 degrees and sunny at the start of the 10:15 a.m. practice
LENGTH OF PRACTICE: 1 hour, 50 minutes
SCHEDULE: The 49ers will return to practice at 9:15 a.m. (MT) Friday in a joint practice with the Broncos at Denver’s facility in Englewood, Co.
INJURIES: TE George Kittle (calf tightness) missed his second straight practice. In addition, LT Joe Staley (pectoral soreness) was held out of team drills and LB Dre Greenlaw (stinger) and TE Levine Toilolo (shoulder) did not practice. CB Greb Mabin did not finish practice due to a right calf injury.
QB C.J. Beathard (thumb) returned to practice with tape on his right hand and thumb. Beathard participated in team drills.
OH, JIMMY: The quarterback who has the words “robot mindset” written on his armband morphed into an interception machine Wednesday.
Garoppolo, who has said those words serve as a reminder to tune out distractions, presumably didn’t have a great mindset after he threw picks on five straight pass attempts.
What happened?
“He threw it to the wrong team five plays in a row,” head coach Kyle Shanahan said. “I was a defensive coach today, so I was pumped. But, no, the defense did great today and obviously he struggled.”
The inexplicably ugly stretch came near the end of strong training camp in which Garoppolo had never thrown more one interception in a practice and allayed concerns about his recovery from a torn ACL he sustained in September.
