Mateo Perez rushed for 175 yards and three touchdowns, and quarterback Michael Ingrassia threw for 220 yards and three more scores as 17th-ranked Marin Catholic-Kentfield opened the season Saturday with a 42-6 win over visiting El Cerrito.

Ingrassia, a 6-foot-1, 177-pound sophomore, was pinpoint accurate, completing 14 of 18 passes.

“I thought Michael did a solid job,” Marin Catholic coach Mazi Moayed told Prep2Prep writer Harold Abend. “He had some big strikes, showed maturity and didn’t make any mistakes.”

The first and biggest of those strikes was a 59-yard completion to Geordie Aarsheim on the first play from scrimmage. Three plays later, Perez scored his first TD on a 1-yard plunge.

“I feel amazing,” Ingrassia said. “The line blocked, Mateo played great and everyone executed.”

The Wildcats allowed only 1 yard in the first half and finished with six sacks and two interceptions for the game.

Gio Ghilotti, a 6-5, 220-pound defensive end, had 14 tackles, including five for loss with two sacks. USC commit Jamar Sekona, a 6-4, 310-pound senior, added 10 tackles with four for losses and two sacks.

El Cerrito got its lone score on a 51-yard pass from Jason Brooks to Robert Freeman against mostly defensive backups late in the third quarter.
