Money: Life 'in God's hands'

Rocker Eddie Money revealed on Saturday he has stage 4 esophageal cancer, saying his life is now "in God's hands."

The 70-year-old hitmaker, known for songs such as "Baby Hold On," "Two Tickets to Paradise" and "Take Me Home Tonight," discussed his diagnosis for his AXS TV reality series, "The Real Money." He said he was getting a checkup last fall when the doctors shocked him with the news.

His wife, Laurie, noted the cancer has also spread to his liver.

"Am I going to live a long time? Who knows. It's in God's hands. But you know what? I'll take every day I can get," said Money, whose real name is Edward Mahoney. "Every day above ground is a good day."

The New York native — whose grandfather, father and brother served on the NYPD — added that while the news hit him "really, really hard," he did not want to hide his diagnosis from his fans.

"What I don't want to do is, I don't want to keep the fact that I have cancer from everybody," he said in the clip, which was released Saturday. "It's not honest (to hide it). I want to be honest with everybody. I want people to know that (fighting) cancer's come a long way an d not everybody dies from cancer, like they did in the '50s and '60s."

The reveal of his cancer diagnosis comes amid Money's ongoing recovery from unrelated complications following a recent heart valve procedure.

The singer announced in May that he would be undergoing the surgery, recommended by his doctors after Money complained about shortness of breath.

The special episode of "Real Money," which will examine the rocker's cancer, is slated to air on AXS TV on Sept. 12.
