Long Island Sound East of New Haven CT / Port Jefferson NY...
At 454 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm, capable
of producing winds to around 30 knots. This thunderstorm was located
8 nm south of New Haven Harbor, moving east at 35 knots.
Locations impacted include...
Mattituck Inlet, Falkner Island, Westbrook Center, Central Long
Island Sound, Horton Point, Orient Point, Mouth of the Connecticut
River, Madison Reef, Long Sand Shoal and The Thimbles.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots...locally higher
waves...and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor
immediately until this storm passes.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 900 PM EDT for
southern Connecticut...southeastern New York...and the adjacent
coastal waters.
