Hyundai Veloster: Sporty compact curated with emotion, imagination
Not everyone wants a Crossover Utility Vehicle. Hyundai’s sporty compact Veloster has been boldly refreshed with that premise top-of-mind. In fact, the Korean automaker calls the updated 2019 Veloster a “reverse halo vehicle,” shining the light on its affordable entry-level model and curating it with new emotion, intelligent technologies, sporty driving — and a healthy dose of a fun personality.
Launched in 2011 with a quirky asymmetrical two-plus-one door configuration, the second-generation sport coupe arrives with a brand-new design, new safety equipment, and an upcoming new high-performance N version with 275 horsepower.
The 2019 Veloster lineup includes the base 2.0 Veloster (starting at $18,500), the Veloster 2.0 Premium ($22,750), the Veloster Turbo R-Spec ($22,900), Veloster Turbo ($25,400), and the Veloster Turbo Ultimate ($26,650); each plus $885 destination.
Each trim level has unique colors, materials, and accents, further differentiating each model with varying hues and textures inside and out. Hyundai’s global design challenge also added a palette of fun, hot colors that include Ultra Black, Chalk White, Sonic Silver, Thunder Gray, Sunset Orange, and Racing Red.
The front-wheel-drive hatchback is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that brings superior efficiency and lower emissions; it delivers peak output of 147 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and maximum estimated torque of 132 lb.-ft. at 4,500 rpm; it can be paired with a six-speed manual or a six-speed electronically controlled automatic.
A turbocharged 1.6-liter serves up 201 hp/195 lb.-ft. of torque, with the choice of a six-speed manual, six-speed conventional automatic, or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission with steering-wheel-mounted paddles. An overboost...
