Wyoming park to hunt, relocate non-native mountain goats
JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming park officials have announced plans to begin removing non-native mountain goats by both lethal and non-lethal means.
Jackson Hole News & Guide reported Tuesday that Grand Teton National Park officials released the final plan, which includes hunting, capturing and relocating the animals.
Park officials say the goats migrated from the Snake River Range into the range of native bighorn sheep threatening the spread of diseases that could terminate the native herd.
Officials say the Teton Range is home to a small herd of about 100 bighorn sheep that have never been augmented or wiped out.
Officials say mountain goat meat may be donated or distributed for consumption.
