Siena basketball to face test behind closed doors

The Siena men’s basketball team will finally get a chance to test new head coach Carmen Maciariello’s system against an opponent next week. Two chances, actually.

The Saints will play a pair of closed scrimmages. First they’ll travel to Long Island University in Brooklyn on Sunday and then they’ll come home to face New Hampshire on Oct. 26.

“Every scrimmage (is) just working on rotations, working on lineups, working on execution,’’ Maciariello said.

LIU is led by head coach Derek Kellogg, who’s entering his third season. He was previously the head coach at UMass, where he spent nine years. The Sharks have four starters back from a team that went 16-16 overall, 9-9 in the Northeast Conference a year ago.
