People Said Mitch Trubisky Can’t Get Any Worse. So He Said, “Hold My Beer!”
By this point, people knew that Mitch Trubisky wasn’t living up to his draft billing. For whatever reason, the player who finished 2018 so strong has completely fallen apart. It’s gotten worse with each passing week. Many thought there was no way he could bottom out worse than he did against the New Orleans Saints where he didn’t cross the 100 yards passing. It turns out they were wrong. Really wrong. He found a way to top himself on a bright afternoon in Philadelphia.
The Trubisky that looked so good back in January late in the game against the Eagles was nowhere to be found. It was truly hard to watch. The kid looked like he was back in his rookie season with bad footwork, off-target throws, misread coverages, and taking of terrible sacks. It was an amazing spectacle of awful and it didn’t even take the entire game. Trubisky finished the first half with an astonishing 6-of-13 completions for 24 yards.
That’s not a misprint. Trubisky had 24 yards passing against a defense that was ranked 21st in passing yardage coming into the game. It’s also a defense he lit up for over 300 yards just a few months ago. That should paint a clear picture of just how far the 25-year old has fallen. His confidence is shattered and it looks like there is no coming back from it. The Bears need to make a change. Chase Daniel is not a long-term answer, but he’s something different.
Mitch Trubisky is done and the Bears need to accept it
Matt Nagy has done everything in his power to help Trubisky become a professional passer. It’s not working. Granted, his play calling hasn’t always been great but the incredible decline of efficiency from the young quarterback paints a pretty clear picture. He’s not the guy. Even if he was having a down year, one could accept it. This is different. Trubisky went from Pro Bowl alternate to looking like a third-string backup in the space of eight games.
Defenses don’t fear him and are basically daring him to challenge them deep. He hasn’t done it. He’ll either dump it off short or take a sack. That’s what it has come to. He’s mentally broken and a guy like that isn’t going to lead them to a Super Bowl. Changes are needed. They can’t do anything about it now but odds are something will happen in the offseason, be it free agency or the draft. If it doesn’t, the franchise can expect riots in the streets.
