Warrington Wolves • Wire Website - Are we nearly there yet ?

I'm all for activity to attract new spectators - but does anybody really start following a club because they have heard they do social media wind ups?
I know we are mostly long standing fans on here, but if say a new franchise ice hockey team launched in Warrington, would you be more likely to follow them if they started baiting the Sheffield Steelers on twitter (and then getting beat by them)? It just doesn't make sense to me as a factor that would attract me to starting watching someone?
Now if I heard that they had signed some ice hockey player that seemed to have a major profile in the game, or if there was genuine excitement that the Warrington team played the best and most exciting hockey in the league, I might be tempted to give them a go. But not just because they do social media wind ups.
I think you are mixing two activities together. The Wolfie antics are all about Publicity, or in KF speak 'brand awareness'. Marketing is all about promoting the product - the benefits, superiority to its competitors etc. I suppose with Man U, Man City, Liverpool within easy reach, plus all the other sports and activities available at the weekend (fishing at Bridge Foot, hang gliding from the Lever spray drying tower etc, etc), KF has decided that we need some brand awareness. Ironically, the Wire Hockey team is probably a very good example of raising awareness of a new club / activity. I suppose for newbies, or people who had got into the rut of hand gliding every week, the publicity should say 'there is other stuff you can do as well'. The Marketing will be reliant on the spectacle of the rugby and winning the CC, and the first of those may be a bit of a hard sell atm.
