Alaska pair arrested on charges of stealing mail, documents
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Alaska State Troopers have arrested two people accused of stealing mail from hundreds of people, authorities aid.
Earnest Linton, 33, and Shannon Calvo, 29, were found in possession of open mail including documents with sensitive financial information, KTVA-TV reported Sunday.
Troopers have identified hundreds of potential victims across multiple cities, authorities said.
An off-duty Alaska State Trooper saw Linton tampering with mailboxes in the Soldotna area around 3 a.m. Feb. 6, authorities said.
Troopers searching a vehicle and found mail, credit cards and documents with sensitive financial information, police said.
The Anchorage residents face charges including second-degree theft, opening or publishing contents of sealed letters and obtaining an access device by fraudulent means, authorities said.
Calvo was also charged with two counts of criminal impersonation, violating conditions of release and charges related to fraud and forgery. Calvo was under conditions of release for a pending Anchorage court case related to fraud and theft, troopers said.
Linton also faces a charge of fourth-degree theft.
Linton and Calvo were also found in possession of controlled substances and the vehicle they were in had a misused registration, authorities said.
