Positive coronavirus tests scuttle Cardinals-Cubs series
The three-game series between the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis at Busch Stadium was postponed Friday after two more Cardinals and a staff member tested positive for the coronavirus.
The Cardinals have been off since July 31, when two players returned positive coronavirus tests. Nine Cardinals have tested positive.
The team spent five days in quarantine in a Milwaukee hotel before tests cleared them to go home Tuesday.
The Cardinals and Miami have been hit hardest by outbreaks in MLB’s 60-game season. The Cardinals will have missed 10 games. St. Louis is to host Pittsburgh on Monday. The Cubs play Tuesday at Cleveland.
The Marlins missed more than a week before resuming Tuesday.
There have been 24 games postponed because of the coronavirus.
Charges in Skaggs case: A former Los Angeles Angels employee, Eric Kay, has been charged with conspiracy to distribute fentanyl in connection with last year’s overdose death of pitcher Tyler Skaggs, prosecutors in Texas announced.
Skaggs was found dead in his hotel room in the Dallas area on July 1, 2019, before the start of a series against Texas.
