University study shows how Durham police can save funds

0

DURHAM, N.H. (AP) — A study conducted by University of New Hampshire students has shown that the Durham Police Department could save over $10,000 annually if it changes the way it buys cruisers.

Foster's Daily Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/1JPxMvC ) the department buys two vehicles per year, which are used as first-line squad cars for three years before being retired and passed on to detectives for two years. The cruisers are then retired again and used as municipal vehicles for the town. After, if they're still in good condition, the cars are sold.

The students recommended selling the cruisers after three years and purchasing a Jeep Patriot, which could be kept for eight years.
