Vermont Transportation Agency gets transit vehicle grant

0

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — The Vermont Agency of Transportation is going to be using a nearly $840,000 federal grant to buy new public transit vehicles to replace existing vehicles throughout the state, the agency said.

The new vehicles will replace transit vehicles that account for approximately 70% of the state’s total transit fleet. There is a backlog of vehicles that need to be replaced, and these new transit vehicles will help to reduce that backlog.

“This is very good news for our transit system, and we will work with Vermont’s transit providers and finalize awards based on needs reflected in our fleet inventories for each region,” Transportation Agency Public Transit Manager Ross MacDonald said in a statement.

The agency will purchase vehicles that can be placed into service upon delivery.

Final award decisions will be made next month. It's likely every transit provider in Vermont will receive at least one vehicle.
