Matt Nagy Finds Out Even Cole Kmet’s Play Punches Hurt Like Hell
Here’s the thing. People don’t quite understand how big Cole Kmet is. We’re talking 6’6 and 260 lbs. Keep in mind most of that is muscle. This guy could play Superman in a movie and people would buy it. Just an absolute physical specimen. He feels like one of those guys who can pretty much do whatever he wants to you if he felt like it. As it turns out, head coach Matt Nagy got a taste of that.
During the second episode of “1920 Football Drive,” the Chicago Bears web series covering training camp, Nagy took time during practice to connect with his rookie tight end. He started the conversation in a rather cheeky way when he stated, “You can’t play baseball.” A playful dig that Kmet chose football over baseball coming out of Notre Dame.
The tight end smiled good-naturedly but then delivered a little punch to Nagy’s chest as a retort. It became clear right away the coach was not ready for the amount of power behind it.
If that’s how hard Kmet hits when he’s just playing around? It is hard to imagine how much worse it could be when he gets serious. Nagy didn’t back down after that. He taunted the rookie about being afraid to block Robert Quinn who was a three-time state wrestling champion in high school. Just another reminder of how capable a leader the man is for this team.
