Woman struck and killed by train in Hayward
A 40-year-old woman was killed after she wandered onto railroad tracks and was struck by an Amtrak train in Hayward, authorities said.
The train, heading south, hit the woman on Union Pacific’s tracks at Industrial Park and Pacific Street around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Hayward Fire Department spokesman Don Nichelson said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Union Pacific spokesman Francisco Castillo said Amtrak and Union Pacific are investigating the incident, but it appears the woman was not at a crossing when the train hit her. It was not immediately known how fast the train was traveling.
