Giants’ Joe Panik struggles with back issues
ARLINGTON, Texas — Joe Panik wasn’t in a great mood after Sunday’s game. It wasn’t all about the 2-1 loss; he’s also concerned about his back issue that resurfaced.
“We tried to battle through it,” Panik said. “It’s not getting better.”
The All-Star second baseman missed Sunday’s game with lower back stiffness and is questionable for Monday’s opener in Atlanta. He sat out the final two games of the homestand and played the first two games of the Texas series.
But running the bases Saturday, he seemed to favor his back, and it was noticed by manager Bruce Bochy.
